01 / THE MOTSE POINT OF VIEW

Not simply a place to cook. A place people remember.

Motse translates the instinct of the traditional boma into contemporary outdoor living — disciplined fabrication, considered materials and forms that feel inseparable from their setting.

02 / DESIGNED AROUND THE GATHERING

Made for evenings that become stories.

Steel. Stone. Flame. One considered centre.

Every Motse piece starts with the space, the people and the way the fire will be used. The result is made to belong — not merely to be placed.

Questions

What people ask us

What is a boma braai?

A boma braai is a circular open fire area used for cooking and gathering, based on the traditional African boma or enclosure. Motse makes freestanding boma braais that work for cooking over coals and then enjoying the fire afterwards.

Do you deliver outside Pretoria?

Yes. We are based in Pretoria and deliver our freestanding units to all nine South African provinces by courier or road freight.

How long does it take?

Freestanding bowls are usually ready within two to three weeks of order, depending on size, finish and current workshop capacity. Tell us your date early and we will confirm what is achievable.

What are they made of?

Our units are fabricated for high-temperature outdoor use, with a heavy bowl carried in a steel strap cradle and three-leg base. Available grid and accessory options depend on the boma you choose.

Do you supply lodges and businesses?

Yes — guest lodges, game farms, restaurants, estates and event venues, alongside private homes. Commercial orders are quoted individually and multiple-unit pricing is available.

How do I look after it?

Cure it with a low first fire, empty the ash once it is cold, and keep a cover on it through the rainy months. A unit that is used regularly and kept dry will outlast the people who bought it.
